Jowl Laser Lipolysis

What is Jowl Plasty?

The skin that covers the human body tends to be constantly dry and thin. The fact that fat and connective tissue proteins such as elastin and collagen that protect the skin structure begin to disappear especially with aging, and due to the effect of sunlight, cell deaths, fat deposit under the skin resulting from excess weight and similar reasons make it difficult to keep the skin in the form it should be. With these effects, the skin becomes plump and loses its elasticity.  As in other parts of the body, the skin around the cheeks and mouth becomes vulnerable to gravity and slowly falls into the area under the chin which is as jowl, and creates a structure with a bulging and ugly appearance (submental fulness / double chin) and causes the jaw lines to become vague.

Another reason for jowl is that the gonion is smaller than normal. This problem can be solved with gonion filling and gonion prosthesis.

Today, the majority of people have problems with local slimming. People who practice methods such as sports, exercise and diet that do not require any medical intervention, but who get no result often prefer plastic procedures.

Plastic interventions to remove sagging and fat deposit in the chin and under-chin area are called Jowl Plasty. Jowl plasty can be applied in a wide range from surgical intervention to non-surgical interventions.

How to remove Jowl?

Although some exercises and jowl-removing masks are mentioned in some platforms to eliminate the abnormal formation in the jaw area, it should be known that these procedures are not helpful in removing jowl. Although it is said that neck area exercises can be beneficial in preventing the formation of jowl, it is not possible to have a removing effect after it is formed. The only way to remove fat deposit and sagging in the jaw area is through jowl plastic procedures. There are different intervention methods in jowl plasty based on the patient's condition and preferences:

Neck Lift Surgery: It is a surgical intervention procedure performed by removing excess fat in the jowl area via surgery under general anesthesia and lifting the skin. A 2-3 cm incision is made on the lower part of the jaw, excess fat is removed and muscles are repaired. In cases where the excess skin needs to be lifted, the incision is enlarged, excess skin is removed and skin is lifted towards the edge of the ear. In cases where the gonion is small, gonion prosthesis is also applied.

Neck - Jowl Filler: It is an procedure that takes about 30 minutes under local anesthesia to correct the wrinkles and gaps in the jowl area. By applying filling material under the skin, a swollen structure is obtained in gaps.

.  Vaser - Laser Liposuction: It is an procedure where excess fat in the jaw area is liquefied by melting with ultrasonic sound waves or laser under local anesthesia, and removed with intervention (aspiration - suction)

Vaser - Laser Lipolysis: It is an procedure where excess fat in the jaw area is liquefied by melting with ultrasonic sound waves or laser and removed by the body without any intervention.

Vacuum and heat supply: By heating collagen fibers in the jowl area, the skin is tightened. There are energy-assisted skin tightening methods that use computer-controlled radiofrequency energy such as FaceTite.

Mesotherapy: It is an procedure which is carried out by injecting fat-dissolving compounds, mostly deoxycholic acid, into the problem area.

Cool sculpting: It is an procedure where excess fat in the jowl area is frozen and frozen fat is discharged by the body within 2-4 months.

What Is Jowl Plasty with Laser Lipolysis? How Is It Performed?

The most common method preferred to get rid of subcutaneous fat is to burn/melt fats with laser beams and discharging from the body. Liposuction or Lipolysis techniques are used in order to discharge the melted fats from the body.

Fat is discharged from the body by aspirating/melting molten fats under the skin with the help of a thin artificial tube (cannula) by means of a surgical intervention performed under general anesthesia in liposuction technique. After the operation, the patient has a recovery period of 3-4 days and the bruises that occur last for two weeks. A corset should be used for about a month. This intervention is expensive because it is a surgical procedure, and theoretically, it is more risky than lipolysis since it is anesthetized. In addition, if it is applied again, a more painful period will be experienced.

In lipolysis technique, melting fat is absorbed by the body without any surgical intervention and is excreted through urine. Its effect on daily life is limited, and the patient can return to work after the intervention. Although the procedure varies according to the amount of fatty tissue and the condition of the skin, it is usually a single session. There is no bleeding during and after the procedure, and there is no surgical scar. There is no undesirable situation except mild redness, bruising and swelling. It makes skin look tighter and younger. It can be repeated every 3 months. In repeat procedures, side effects and pain seen in liposuction are not experienced, only some edema may occur. After the operation, it is enough to wear a corset for 4-5 days.

The process of melting the subcutaneous fat in the jowl area with the help of laser in order to eliminate the sagging and fat deposit in the jaw and under the jaw area is called as Jowl Plasty with Laser Lipolysis.

There is no need for any preliminary preparation before Jowl Plasty with Laser Lipolysis. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, patients with high blood pressure, those who use anticoagulants, those with skin problems, those with allergies and those who have previously undergone surgery on the facial area should definitely inform the doctor before the procedure.

In the procedure of Jowl Plasty with Laser Lipolysis, in order to protect the laser beams from the heat effect, the area where the laser will be applied is narcotized via anesthetic gel. Diode laser is applied to the area of fat deposit for periods ranging from 15 to 60 minutes in such a way to scan all layers of adipose tissue. At the end, there is no stitch; but a bandage is used for a few days. There may be mild bruising and swelling for 2-3 days.

Laser destroys membranes of the fat cells (lipolysis) and breaks down the fat, loses its elasticity and increases the formation of new bonds and collagen by breaking down the connective tissue and collagen. Fat melted by laser cannot be discharged directly out of the body. In time, molten fat enters the blood and is excreted through urine within an average of 3 months. When necessary, fat can be removed with the help of a cannula, as in liposuction, but this procedure is done with much thinner cannulas.

Jowl Plasty with Laser Lipolysis has many advantages, compared to other methods. Its prominent features are the lack of a surgical intervention, the ability to be applied to small areas, short and comfortable recovery time, tightening of the skin, short bandage time, continuation of daily life and minimal sagging of the skin.

How Much Does Jowl Laser Lipolysis Cost?

It is not possible to give general information about the price of jowl plasty with laser lipolysis. This is because each procedure contains special conditions. The area where laser will be applied will change based on the demand and need of the patient, and this will affect the price. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has reported that a written announcement of plastic intervention prices will lead to unfair competition and it is deemed to be undesirable to share the prices.
